    Calculate your basal metabolic rate (BMR). You can find this information online by putting in your height, weight, age and activity level. Your BMR determines how many calories you need to eat a day to lose weight.

    Choose a weight loss goal. It takes about a 3500 calorie deficit to lose a pound. Therefore if you wish to lose 5 lbs. in 5 weeks, eliminate 500 calories from your diet each day.

    Base your meals around the number of calories that you are permitted a day. There are no good and bad foods on Jillian's diet plan. You can eat whatever you want as long as it does not exceed your recommended calorie count.

    Exercise daily on the Jillian Michaels diet. This is one of the central components of the Eat Less Diet.
